Recently, we ventured south of Beverly Hills to beautiful Newport Beach where we were invited to celebrate the birthday of a dear friend. We love traveling down to the Laguna area coastline, and Newport Beach at its northernmost tip is always beautiful. Known for its large, boat-filled harbor, the Balboa Peninsula hosts both Newport Beach Pier and Balboa Pier, an old-school amusement park and miles and miles of magnificent ocean views.
Yet, nothing compares to the beauty of The Resort at Pelican Hill. Resting upon 504 acres of Newport Beach’s unspoiled coastline, Pelican Hill sits surrounded by nature’s most lush rolling hills and spectacular coastal views. A picture-perfect retreat just a short distance from the hustle of Interstate 405 makes access to the serenity of Pelican Hill simple and stress-free. Instantly, we felt as if we had entered our own calm, beautiful and luxurious old-world countryside.
Italian 16th-century architect Andrea Palladio, famous for his designs of grand country homes in Venice, inspired the spacious and elegant design of Pelican Hill that masterfully blur the boundaries between landscape and construction. All Bungalow Guest Rooms or Bungalow Suites are spacious and boast limestone fireplaces, private terraces, hand-hewn wood-beam ceilings, marble baths, and adjacent parking.
The Villas offer a more intimate experience with a private clubhouse and pool, butler services, and Pelican Hill’s award-winning private staff. The Villas range from over 2,000 to 3,500 square feet with choices of two, three or four bedrooms – all with sprawling ocean views.
We had six restaurants and cafes to choose from including whether we wanted to eat inside or outside on our private terrace. The food was fabulous in each and every place, highlighting much of the fresh, local seafood and seasonal farm to table ingredients. We enjoyed the flavor of Italy with handmade pasta and gelato for desert. Some of the most incredible hand-crafted cocktails set off our evening enjoying the live entertainment and dancing under the stars for the birthday party.
Pelican Hill prides itself on its many honors and awards received for outstanding hospitality. Highly invested in providing ever manner of comfort, they serve by the creed, “If it can be done, it will be done.” Every member of the resort, from the administrators to staff, is trained to make every conceivable comfort effortlessly available to all of its guests.
Overall, we loved our visit to Pelican Hill – a beautiful reminder of Northern Italy’s timeless landscape with 100-year-old olive trees, lavender, cypress, fig, pine and Canary palm trees that frame rolling green hills and the azure blue Pacific coastline – all of this beauty literally in our California backyard.
